Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco

When the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, one of the five cultural agencies of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the USA, asked InTAdesign to redefine their reception area in 2005, we immediately saw the challenge of the project.

The “entry point” to the institution – the first space visitors encounter when attending cultural events hosted at the ICI gallery – had to be integrated with an accessible VHS/DVD display area, since the current video library was needed as an extra office space.
For the display system we selected Rakks aluminum shelving, which has a clean profile, is versatile, and can be easily customized.
In addition, we inserted a kidney-shaped table to allow a smooth and functional transition between the reception area and video library, but also to facilitate their connection to adjoining spaces, such as the elevator, the gallery, and the administrative offices.
